When I was a child I used to go fishing with Poppy. As the sun would set and throw its colors against the sky colors of reds, oranges, blues and purples these gorgeous colors that I could not even describe in detail. While this was happening the sun as big as ever, this huge bright ball of orange would start to set. I remember him telling me as the sun kissed the water as the sun was setting “Do you hear it?” he would say. The sizzle of the hot sun in the water. “Yes, yes I can hear it!” I would exclaimed as I tilted my head as so I could hear it better.
Day #87 Beth Kempton’s Spring Light Prompt- A memory of light
And a beautiful memory it was, Sharon. Just this morning, a woman named Susan Tweit posted about the decreased flower counts in the high, arid lands in northern New Mexico where she lives. Susan has her botanical nomenclature well in order. As her followers replied I learned a wonderful fact on a particular flower that opens at night then closes up for good the next morning. The opening makes a sound, audible from even a distance. One reply spoke of hearing this after a good amount of rain had fallen. Like a symphony lots opened at the same time. Cool, too, is that the sound attracts pollinators that the plant needs to reproduce! I was overwhelmed to learn that. Nature!
When Nathaniel was little he called the setting sun “the big red ball in the sky”. Thanks for pulling the memory out of storage. :)
